Antique Damier trunk c.1910
Charming cabin trunk covered with a coated checkerboard canvas and protected by lozine borders. The trunk has brass jewelry on all sides, with "elephant ear" handles on each side, and an "American" type lock on the front. The trunk is also equipped with reinforced corners and angles for all types of travel. This canvas with checkerboard pattern is similar to the canvas used by the Moreau house located on rue Saint Honoré. The trunk is sold with its original key.
We notice several interesting shipping labels stuck on this trunk, including a label indicating a trip to Casablanca on the top of the trunk or a label of Rabat in Morocco on the side.
The inside of the trunk is lined with an unbleached linen cloth, with the label of the manufacturer Paul Romand indicating the address of the store at the time at 213 rue Saint Honoré.
Very good condition : The trunk is in very good condition, with a superb patina of the outer canvas. The interior is very clean.
The cabin trunks measure 33cm high, dimensions allowing travelers of 1900 to store their trunks under the bed in a liner cabin or railroad car bed.

These trunks disappeared from Louis Vuitton or Goyard sales catalogs when the airplane supplanted the liners in the immediate post-war period. For lack of traveling today with these cabin trunks, their format is ideal to make a coffee table. Often protected by a glass, it is the assurance of having an unusual table, full of history and symbol of an art of living at the beginning of the 20th century.
