Goyard cabin trunk
Very nice Goyard cabin trunk from the 1910s, covered with coated Goyardine canvas.
Protected by lozine borders and brass parts, there are three clasps on the front of the trunk signed Goyard Ainé, as well as a green family band that covers the four sides of the luggage.
This green stripe was originally used to differentiate this trunk from other luggage during a trip. There is also an upside down "D" on one side, initial of the original owner.

It was necessary to have no less than three outfits per day for a socialite during a cruise ship trip at that time, with the same number of outfits renewed daily for his wife, four if one distinguishes between cocktail dresses and evening dresses, not to mention the sportswear. A five-day cruise required a well-stocked wardrobe that mixed muslin dresses to go to the show and fur coats that were indispensable in bad weather. In order to remain comfortable in the midst of abundant luggage, the transatlantic companies agree on standard measures that best adapt trunks and furnishings.

THE COFFEE TABLE, CABIN SIZE
These trunks disappeared from Louis Vuitton or Goyard sales catalogs when the airplane supplanted the liners in the immediate post-war period. For lack of traveling today with these cabin trunks, their format is ideal to make a coffee table. Often protected by a glass, it is the assurance of having an unusual table, full of history and symbol of an art of living at the beginning of the 20th century.
