Louis Vuitton wardrobe trunk c.1925
Superb and iconic Louis Vuitton wardrobe trunk from 1925, covered with the Louis Vuitton monogram canvas stencils and protected by lozine borders. The trunk is equipped with brass jewelry, with stamped Louis Vuitton clasps and a restored leather handle.
This trunk was sold in John Wanamker's New York department store in 1925, the only Louis Vuitton branch in New York until 1939. The original owner's initials H.W.D. and the inscription "New York City" were painted in red on the trunk directly in the store at the time of purchase. We also notice a Washington hotel label glued on the top.
This trunk is equipped with 6 interior drawers, as well as a hinged closet to store a set of Louis Vuitton stamped wooden hangers. A leather strap is attached in the trough to hold the vintage laundry bag in place. There is also the Louis Vuitton manufacturer's label, the label of the trunk's New York dealer John Wanamaker, and the serial number of the luggage. The leather tabs of the drawers have been restored.
Good condition : Despite 2 transatlantic trips and an important past, this Louis Vuitton wardrobe trunk is in very good condition. There is some restoration done during these trips, as well as a very nice patina of the outer canvas. The wardrobe trunk is an emblematic piece of the art of travel in the twentieth century and is today among the most sought after trunks.
