Louis Vuitton trunk c.1909
Superb 1909 Louis Vuitton courrier trunk protected by metal edging, covered with the iconic LV stenciled canvas and equipped with 3 brass clasps stamped "Louis Vuitton".
The original owner's initials "D.C.P" are partially visible on each side, painted in the Louis Vuitton store at the turn of the century when the luggage was purchased. These initials correspond to Commandant Denis Clouet des Pesruches (1881-1958). The trunk contains a book, translated into English, dedicated to the history of this family. There are also a number of photos of the man on horseback and at a fencing tournament in 1905.
The trunk is equipped with a leather strap that was made later but is identical to the Louis Vuitton straps of the time. There are also 4 steel wheels on the underside of the trunk.
The interior layout is complete in its original state, with a first compartmentalized frame for storing small items of clothing, shirt collars, belts, ties, etc., followed by a single frame underneath for storing classic garments. The Louis Vuitton manufacturer's authenticity label is glued into the hood, with the luggage's serial number printed on the fabric. The original padding, originally used to allow the customer to store these photos during the trip, is also present.
The trunk is in very good condition for its age, with a superb external patina. There are a few marks on the outer canvas and a few stains on the inner lining. Ideal today as a coffee table with protective glass and/or as a small piece of occasional furniture.
Even though modern liners are huge, the space reserved for trunks in the cabin is still small. Limited by the regulations of the companies, we have nevertheless created models that meet all requirements.
The "Cabin" with a free bottom and either a simple frame as shown here or a rack frame as in the "Courier" trunk
Available in the 4 sizes above and in all qualities

THE COFFEE TABLE, CABIN SIZE
These trunks disappeared from Louis Vuitton or Goyard sales catalogs when the airplane supplanted the liners in the immediate post-war period. For lack of traveling today with these cabin trunks, their format is ideal to make a coffee table. Often protected by a glass, it is the assurance of having an unusual table, full of history and symbol of an art of living at the beginning of the 20th century.
