Long Louis Vuitton trunk c.1910

Exceptional and rare 1910s Louis Vuitton long trunk covered with one of the first L.vuitton monogram canvas stencils and protected by dark lozine borders. It features 5 brass clasps stamped "LV", 2 original leather handles and 6 reinforcing slats. The trunk measures 1.40 m in length, and was the largest model presented in the Louis Vuitton catalog at the beginning of the 20th century.

The original owner's initials "L.G" are painted in white on each side, with the number "18" corresponding to the luggage number; the first owner of this trunk therefore traveled with at least 17 other models... Travelling in 1900 with so much Louis Vuitton luggage was reserved for the wealthiest people of the century. Indeed, in addition to the already high cost of the trunks, extraordinary organization was required to move all this luggage by boat or train, and this was very expensive for travelers. The number "18" is also stamped on the inside of the trunk.

Originally, this model could be moved horizontally, but to use it, it had to be placed in an upright position. To protect the trunk when in use, there are wooden reinforcements on the right-hand side, and a large piece of wood on the left-hand side to prevent the trunk from turning over and to protect the top of the luggage. Once in the upright position, the lid of the trunk transforms into a door, which is why a small roller is attached to the right-hand side to accompany the opening of the trunk.

The trunk is empty, but you can find in this model all the fittings needed to store the accessories of a man of this era: compartments for hats, shoes, clothes in the vat, etc. All the fixings of these old fittings are here. All the fixtures and fittings are still present in the trunk, which can be seen complete in the 1912 catalog.

Today, a trunk of this length is ideal as a coffee table or bedroom decoration, placed at the end of a bed. Its length is impressive, and its height perfect for "modern use".
