Louis Vuitton trunk c.1890
Adorable little Louis Vuitton hat trunk from the 1890s, entirely covered in natural leather with beautiful saddle stitching on each edge.
The original leather handle is visible on the top of the trunk, with a central brass lock stamped "Louis Vuitton" and indicating the various store addresses of the period. It can also be seen that the lock has been broken during its lifetime, with tool marks on the lower part of the clasp. The 4-digit lock number is clearly visible.
The inside of the trunk is lined in linen, with brown felt in the hood. Traces of the original fastenings can be seen, enabling the original owner to carry a Mellon hat, a Haut de forme hat and a Canotier, for all kinds of travel and in complete safety.
The trunk is in very good condition for its age, with a few water spots on the exterior and interior lining. Very nice patina of the leather.
The hat is not only cumbersome, but also fragile and in most of the existing systems, it is forced to take the form of a support more or less made for it.
In our trunks, the hat is hung on ribbons that follow the curve of the hat's edge, whatever it may be. There is therefore no possible deformation.
