Louis Vuitton trunk c.1904
Superb 1906 Louis Vuitton cabin trunk covered with the emblematic stencil monogram canvas and protected by leather trim (the most luxurious finish of the period). The trunk is equipped with brass jewelry, with the 3 clasps and 2 handles stamped "Louis Vuitton Paris". The clasp number is engraved on the bottom of the lock. There is a set of 5 wooden laths fixed to the main faces to consolidate the trunk.
Red and white lines are painted on these same sides, colors adopted by the first owner's family to enable the household staff to recognize their client's trunks during travels. The customer's initials "H.W" are painted in yellow by Louis Vuitton on both sides of the trunk, along with the name of his home town "Rixheim" in Alsace. A few railway labels from Le Mans and Paris, as well as a label from the famous Parisian palace Hotel Plaza, are glued to the sides of the luggage, testifying today to its beautiful past.
The inside of the trunk is lined in linen, with padding in the hood, originally used to hold photos or letters. The authenticity label is clearly visible, with the various store addresses of the time, as well as the serial number corresponding to the year 1904.
Very good condition: The trunk is in very good condition, with a few marks on the outer canvas and a few stains on the inner lining. The leather has a very nice patina.

THE COFFEE TABLE, CABIN SIZE
These trunks disappeared from Louis Vuitton or Goyard sales catalogs when the airplane supplanted the liners in the immediate post-war period. For lack of traveling today with these cabin trunks, their format is ideal to make a coffee table. Often protected by a glass, it is the assurance of having an unusual table, full of history and symbol of an art of living at the beginning of the 20th century.
