Goyard cabin trunk c.1910
Goyard cabin trunk c.1910 covered in the emblematic Goyardine canvas and protected by leather trim, the most luxurious finish of the era. Also featured are the brand's brass clasps, with two handles stamped "Goyard Paris" and the emblematic Goyardine canvas.
The original owner's initials "J.T" are painted in red on each side, with some rail transport labels glued to the left side of the trunk indicating, for example, a journey from the Gare d'Orsay in Paris to the small village of Saint Maturin in Normandy.
Under the trunk are four unidirectional wheels, with a zinc moisture protection stamped "Goyard Paris - 233 rue Saint-Honoré".
The interior is covered with a coated cotton canvas, with padding to hold the original customer's photos between the ribbons when traveling. The upholstery has been restored to its original condition. Fragments of the Goyard manufacturer's label glued into the vat can be seen, with the beginning of the address visible "233 rue St-...". After numerous manipulations over the years, it is not uncommon today for these interior labels to have disappeared. The original interior frame is still present, along with the trunk key.
These cabin models were 33cm high, the same height as the bed in an ocean liner cabin or the berth in a sleeper car - so travelers could easily stow their trunks under their beds, regardless of whether they were traveling by train or ship.
Very good condition: The trunk is in superb condition for its age, with a beautiful patina of leather and shiny brass parts. The Goyardine canvas is slightly marked, but overall in very good condition for its age. The interior is very clean, with a few fine marks.

THE COFFEE TABLE, CABIN SIZE
These trunks disappeared from Louis Vuitton or Goyard sales catalogs when the airplane supplanted the liners in the immediate post-war period. For lack of traveling today with these cabin trunks, their format is ideal to make a coffee table. Often protected by a glass, it is the assurance of having an unusual table, full of history and symbol of an art of living at the beginning of the 20th century.
