Damier travel trunk c.1930
Beautiful travel trunk from the 1930s, covered with a checkerboard canvas and protected by curved wooden slats. The trunk is equipped with two brass locks. The initials A.M. of the original owner can be seen on both sides of the trunk, as well as on the right side a label of the Hotel de Banama in Barcelona, which was stuck by the bellmen of the hotel as soon as the traveler arrived.
The curved trunks were much lighter than the traditional "straight" trunks, thanks to the absence of trimmings and the use of a lighter wood. The interior of this one has the original layout with two frames for storing clothes and canvas straps to hold them in place. The hood is covered with blue padding, allowing the customer to attach photos and letters inside the trunk. The label of the manufacturer Au Depart located in Nancy is glued inside the luggage.
When we bought this trunk, we also found a hat trunk from the same owner, made by the same trunk maker, with the same checkerboard fabric and the same initials. Here is the link
Very good condition : The trunk is in good condition for its age, with a superb patina of the outside canvas. The interior is very clean and entirely original.
